'The Neuse Juice'

Volume 51 Number 3

Commodore's Lo

Spring lands next week! Let the pressure washing begin!!

I know I've said it before, but I can't wait to get out there with you all. Our season is nearing quickly, with Shrimperoo just over a week from now and the Spring Cruise right after that. It's time to clean up that list of things you wanted to do to the boat over the winter.

I mentioned Shrimperoo; with it coming up on March 23rd, please reach out to Tammy and Todd to offer any help you can. Sharon (my Sharon) will also be looking for a hand in the membership sign-up area. This is our main membership recruitment event, so please encourage others to attend, meet the group, and join up.

Special Events

Ahoy!

Let me start by saying that you are all rock stars for helping to pull off a great Oyster Roast! I wish I could give a shout out to every one of you, from setting up in the cold, moving tables around and staying after to clean up. The sides were next level. The NSA really knocked it out of the park!  We had a great selection and some really delicious food.

Looking forward, the Shrimperoo is right around the corner. It is March 23rd at 2:00 at the Oriental Marina.   I've already had volunteers for registration and serving shrimp. I'm going to be sending out in email in the week before to confirm times. Please bring a side or dessert. I think sides are most important at this event, but we will need some desserts too. Keep in mind that this is open to the public, so we are going to be feeding more people. If the Oyster Roast is any indication, We’ve got this!!!! I'm going to have setup at 11:00 again for anyone that wants to help. It usually just consists of moving tables and chairs and then toasting our efforts with a beverage at the Tiki Bar. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Cheers!

Cruising Update

The 2024 cruise line up is spectacular!

See the cruising dates on the calendar so you can start planning!

Our first cruise is to Bonner Bay. Experienced cruisers Cara and Jason are captaining. Check out the cruise description for the plans.  All of the cruise descriptions will be posted shortly so start filling  your calendars!  See you on the water.

New practices started last year that will continue:

  1. Sharing the job of cruise captains between 2 boats. This worked well last year. New cruisers were mentored by seasoned members and there was always a captain in case plans changed! In February, there will be a general meeting of all those interested/willing to participate as cruise captains.
  2. Leave no Trace: BYO cups, plates and utensils to reduce waste at our socials.

We look forward to seeing you all out on the water!

Ok, so you made it to the bottom!  ... here is your prize nautical tip:

Nautical Term: "Clean bill of health" was a certificate signed by a port authority attesting that no contagious disease existed in the port of departure and none of the crew was infected with a disease at the time of sailing.
