March 2025 | 'The Neuse Juice' | Volume 52 Number 3 |
Commodore's Log Flowers in March? March begins with lots of boat prep and thinking about the upcoming season, and apparently flowers are getting tricked by a few warm days! March also brings our main membership drive event – this year named the “Salty Spring Social”. Tammy is mixing things up a bit this year trying new ways to engage members and I am really looking forward to a great time at this social! Other than encouraging you to look at the NSA events calendar and blocking out dates to enjoy time with your NSA friends, there isn’t much to share in this update. That said, there is an important fund-raising campaign being held by the Friends of Whittaker Creek (FoWC) to finish dredging, as well as modifying the channel to stay in deeper water. Obviously, Whittaker Creek is an important channel for anyone with a boat at the many marinas and homes off the creek. It is also key for access to the 2 marine yards which many of us use for maintenance and repairs. If you are so inclined, I encourage your participation in the fund-raising efforts for Whittaker Creek. Your dollars will be matched 3 to 1 for state grant monies that FoWC has requested for the project. Your contribution will ensure FoWC secures the matching funds and can accomplish the project in late 2025! The project’s GoFundMe page is accepting donations here. I look forward to seeing you at the Salty Spring Social and the Spring Cruise in early April! Jeff Kenyon NSA Commodore Membership It’s warming up out there! We have another year of fun-filled NSA events and cruises on the 2025 calendar, and we’re excited to get out there! In March we will be having our first NSA Salty Spring Social and I hope to see you all there. February brought us some new members and many of you have renewed your annual memberships! If you haven’t already done so, please do! Help me give a warm welcome to those who recently joined us:
We're looking forward to another season full of travel, adventure, and comradery. If you know of someone who would like to join us on our journeys, please direct them to the NSA website. 2025 Oriental Boat Show Dates: 11 April 2025 - 13 April 2025 Location: Oriental Volunteers need to help staff our tent and bring in new members! Oriental’s annual In-water Boat Show has grown exponentially since its beginnings in 2009. The most recent show drew over 100 exhibitors from as far away as Hampton, Virginia; Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Bryson City, NC. In addition to nautical goods and services, dealers and brokers will bring in boats on land and in the slips at Oriental Harbor Marina, and many informational seminars are offered. We're looking forward to another amazing season on the water. If you know someone who would like to join in on the fun, please direct them to the NSA website or have them contact me at sharon@yondercove.com See you all soon.

Cruising 2025 Spring Cruise Dates: 5 April - 6 April 2025 Location: Morehead City Yacht Basin Please note: When you register be sure to include your spouse / partner / guest as an attendee. Our first cruise of the year will be an overnight cruise to a nearby destination. We have decided to go to Morehead City Yacht Basin which should give us a good shakedown cruise to clean out the cobwebs and stretch our sailing skills crossing the Neuse and motoring down Adam’s Creek. MCYB welcomed us there a few years ago and we had a great time. Please note that this is a change of original venue, Bishops Marina. Please subscribe to the forum to keep informed of any changes to the trip or venue. We can never predict the weather Please register for the cruise through the event registration and also email Cara@CaraKeys.com with the details of your boat: Length, Beam, Depth and power needs. That way I can give the marina a heads up of how many slips we need. Make sure to fly your BURGEE during the Event! Cara & Jason Keys Cruise Captains S/V Sol Mate Click here for the full list of Cruises! This year we are going to try communicating via WhatsApp on the cruises. It is easier to add and remove group members than regular texting. Please consider downloading WhatsApp if you don’t have it yet. We hope you will join us for as many cruises as you can. And as always, we look forward to seeing you on the water. David and Christa Vice Commodores of Cruising S/V Cymbeline Special Events The warmer weather is upon us and we are looking forward to the upcoming Salty Spring Social. It's March 29th at the Oriental Marina and Inn (Tiki Bar). We will have live music starting at 2:00. This is open to the public, so talk it up with anyone you know that might be interested. The official event time is 2:00, but I'm asking members to come between 1:00-1:30. I would like to have all members checked in and drink tickets handed out before 2:00. Each member will get two drink tickets. If anyone can not be early, no worries though. My motto is, let’s make everything easy on everyone. This will keep lines short and free up members' time to enjoy the event. You’ll be able to check in like we did at the Oyster Roast and we’ll hand you your wristbands and drink tickets. You can check any guests you have at this time as well. Guests fees are $10, payable by cash or check. If you haven't renewed by the event, you will be able to that day, but I'd encourage everyone who can, to renew online if possible. Things can get hectic that day. Registration is now open. Even though there is a place to say what you are bringing, don't worry about that. I can assure you that I don't have time to keep up with what everyone is bringing. Feel free to write whatever you want in and bring what works best for you. I will ask that for this event, try to bring a heavy dish or side. We’re feeding a lot of guests. I have complete faith in this group. We always put on a good spread. Let's all look at this like we’re all hosting. If you see something that we need, feel free to jump in there. I'm going to be working sign-in, so I’ll need a few people to help me at registration. Please text me if you want to help or have any questions. It's easier for me than email. My number is (919) 222-2281. Aside from that, let’s all just pitch in where needed. I'm excited to see everyone and hope this turns out to be a fun event. I can't imagine with this group anything else though. Good friends, good food and good music…. It should be a great time! Todd and Tammy Richards Vice Commodores of Special Events S/V Island Girl |
