Commodore's Log Hello All, We're rapidly closing in on our summer sailing season, and I'm just thrilled about it! Our Memorial Day Ocracoke cruise is just a couple of weeks away. From what I can tell the NSA going to make quite a splash (figuratively) in Silver Lake with our numbers. I'm really looking forward to seeing all of your faces.
For many of us this is the first real cruise of the season. Check your stores; make sure you have enough those items youcan't live without. For me it's coffee! And check your to-do list; before we head out I'll be finishing up the last few spring maintenance items. Changing fluids and checking hoses is never a waste of time. As we move into this cruising season let's remember to be safe and to watch out for each other. We have great a depth of knowledge in the NSA. I'd guess that every mechanical, electrical, navigational, and operational issue there is has been faced by one or more members of our group. If you're unsure about something, or need a hand, reach out. That's the power of community. Welcome NSA’s Newest Members - New Member's Social
April was a busy month, with our Spring Cruise, the annual boat show, and the New Members Social. All events were a hit! On April 20th, several new members who joined over the previous year gathered with the board & bridge to get acquainted and ask questions in a smaller environment, while hearing about the club and the upcoming season’s cruises.
Please join me in welcoming John & Betty Sleasman of Oriental, owners of Durham, which they keep at Pecan Grove. The Sleasman’s joined us in April.
I look forward to seeing you all on the Memorial Day Cruise later this month! If you know of anyone who would like to join in on the fun, please direct them to me or our website!
Best,
Sharon Bellrose-McDonald

We have had several members recently join our NSA Facebook group so I wanted to say “welcome to the group”. I hope you enjoy all the photos, etc that the members post and feel free to post some yourself. I am not automatically notified if you request to join the group and are denied.
I periodically review the requests and will reach out to you via messenger if I see a member that was denied. This is a reminder to answer the questions asked or you will automatically be denied. Please reach out to me if you have any problems. Also, if you respond with “going” on Facebook to an event you still need to officially register on the website.
We have the new tee-shirts in so if you would like to inquire regarding colors or sizes you can always text me at (615) 828-8621. I will deliver to you in Oriental.

Ok, so you made it to the bottom! ... here is your prize nautical trivia:
Baggy wrinkles are used to prevent sail chafe and are usually attached to the main shrouds, port and starboard. They can be used on any shroud that may rub against a sail. They were traditionally made by sailors out of old lines cut to various lengths and attached to a central core to form a sleeve.
