All Hands on Deck!
Cruise Captains: Sharon, Rob, Liz, Rich
June feels like a good time to get out and unplug for a bit and the Week-Long North Cruise is a terrific trip for that. This cruise heads up around the Pamlico and Pungo Rivers to visit our favorite places in Little Washington and Belhaven, and then travels down to Beaufort where I for one, plan to enjoy a little time on the beach.
From Beaufort, it's an easy trip home or a good place to reprovision and join the Week-Long South Cruise. I'm excited about both cruises!
The routes and destinations on this cruise have been chosen to provide a relaxed pace, flexibility, and to strike a comfortable balance between time underway and time in interesting ports. I hope to see you all there!
Your Cruise Captains will set up group text messaging for the cruise participants. It’s a good way to keep in touch with the group and things going on, or to notify folks of hazards in the waterway.
Please provide your mobile number(s) at registration if you’d like to be included in the chat.
What’s the plan?
Saturday, June 15 - A night on the hook in Campbell Creek
Our first night is planned at anchor on the way to Little Washington. The Bay River and Goose Creek offer several protected and serene anchorages, all within a few miles of each other. A couple of days before departure we'll choose the one that best suits the weather. An anchorage filled with NSA boats is a beautiful thing!
We'll raft a few boats as a hub for our floating social, drop anchors, and call it home for the night.
For our hungry sailors your Cruise Captains will be dishing up Mojo Cuban roasted pork shoulder, served taco-style with coleslaw. The club will be providing beverages; please be sure to indicate your beverage preference when you register for the Cruise.
And please bring something yummy to share.
June 16-17 - Little Washington
We'll cruise the 35nm or so up the Pamlico to Little Washington where there’s always something going on, and it’s always a short walk from the docks.
The City Docks, Moss Landing, and Havens Wharf are all a very short walk to everything. Note that the City Docks may not have electricity available at all slips. If you need power, be sure to ask when you make your reservation.
June 18-19 - Belhaven
From Little Washington it's about 42nm to Belhaven's River Forest Manor and Marina. You'll find it immediately on the right just after passing the Belhaven breakwater. This will be our home while we’re in town.
The Marina restaurant in the Manor is now open, and has offered to provide us with private dining on our second night there. The food looks delicious!
They will also have their Marina Tiki-Bar in full swing by the time we get there and will be bringing in live music for us.
Belhaven is a great town to explore on foot or in a golf cart.
June 20 - South River
A nice relaxing overnight in one of our go-to anchorages.
June 21-22 - Beaufort
Historic Beaufort offers restaurants, music, shopping, and beaches. Our second day in Beaufort is an overlap day between the North and South cruises. Our numbers will swell and with a group like ours, there’ll be much fun to be had!
Current at the docks:
The current in Taylor Creek can be swift and can make docking at Beaufort Docks a challenge. Most prefer to arrive near slack current. At Beaufort Docks this happens about 45 minutes after the tide turns. If you plan accordingly, it's very easy docking.
Sunday, June 23 - Home or South
Sunday June 23 is the last day of the North cruise. It’s an easy trip home from Beaufort or your jump point to the Week-Long South Cruise.
Reminders:
Reserve your own slips. The Cruise Captains will provide each marina with a rough number of boats for planning purposes, but you must call to make your reservations.
Bring your own dishware and cups to the social events to help us cut back on the volume of trash we create and haul.
And don’t forget to fly your NSA burgee!
