'The Neuse Juice'

Volume 52 Number 8

Commodore's Lo

    Where does the time go?…

The Cruising Commodore’s made an excellent decision to take a pause for July this year!  What a hot month.  Not that we could expect much cooling in August, but that is just what has happened – SO FAR. A hearty thanks to Christa and David Kreutz! This brings us to about mid-way through the event calendar. I don’t know about you, but time marches on faster each year to me.  Just how does that work?

However, there is still plenty of cruising and our party in November ahead.  Destinations include Belhaven, Bath, West Bay and Ocracoke.  Plenty of time and plenty of great places to visit remain.  I hope you will be able to join one or all of them.

That leaves the Commodore’s Ball on Saturday, November 8th.  Planning is in full swing – my main duty for the year alongside leadership (ha!). As noted last month, we’ll be at Stanley Hall in New Bern. We have also booked Southern Hellcats for entertainment. They do such a great job and get everyone dancing, and I hope you’ll agree a repeat is well worth it. Catering is not quite set, but we will shift to a new caterer this year, most likely The Chelsea, who always deliver a special meal.

I hope you will be there to celebrate another great year with NSA!  And before then, I hope to see you at the next event.

    Cruising

The Dowry Creek cruise was a success despite some pretty windy conditions on the way up. Cruise captains Tracy and Robert had a lot of fun activities planned, and it sounds like it was a great time! We were sorry to miss it this year, but glad it was so well attended.

Next up is our Labor Day Weekend cruise to Cape Lookout. Lynn and Rick Edwards are our cruise captains. So register as soon as you know if you will be joining! This is always a fun event, hanging out at the beach together and having a potluck.

We're also looking ahead to fall and have several cruises coming up. Check your calendars for the upcoming Fall 1 cruise the weekend of September 27th. It will be led by Lisa Mannion and Kay Nuechterlein. Registration will be open shortly.

We hope you will join us for as many cruises as you can. And as always, we look forward to seeing you on the water.

    Lazy Day Cruise

We sure packed a whole lot into the Dowry Creek Cruise!

The weekend was filled with adventure, good food, good conversation, lots of laughter and some good sailing.

Those traveling Friday were face with stiff, on the nose winds but got in in time for a “here beer” before dinner at the Salty Crab on Friday night.

Saturday morning we are paddled through the creeks enjoying the beauty and getting lots of exercise against waves and current!

We enjoyed good food, drinks and conversation during the social followed by lots of laughs during pool games.

Some enjoyed a cookout poolside while others enjoyed the restaurant.

We started home Sunday with fair winds and following seas and got a nice shower on the way in to rinse off the boats!

      Thanks to all who participated!

    Tracy and Robert
