April 2025

'The Neuse Juice'

Volume 52 Number 4

Commodore's Lo

Under Way in April!

By the time this Neuse Juice hits your inbox, the first cruise of the year will be in the books.  In true NSA fashion, flexibility is the name of the game, and the cruise was shifted from Bishops Marina (now called Temples Point) to Morehead City because of the changeover in management.

Thanks go to cruise captains Cara and Jason Keys for their perseverance!  April brings the Spring cruise noted above and the Oriental Boat show.  The membership chairperson is still looking for volunteers for a few hours to work at the NSA/NCO booth, so please sign up if you are able!

May is busy with 3 cruising opportunities: Early Spring Cruise, Memorial Day and the beginning of the Weeklong. Get ready to have some fun with NSA!

Personally, Calitri is on the hard for some scheduled maintenance including some mast repairs that turned out to not be as significant as feared. So, we’re behind the eight ball, but should be back in shape by late April.

See you on the water!

2025 Oriental Boat Show

Dates: 11 April 2025 - 13 April 2025

Location: Oriental

Volunteers are needed to help staff our tent and bring in new members!

The Salty Spring Social was held on March 29th, at the Oriental Harbor Marina. Shrimp cocktail was available to members who arrived early, and we opened to the public shortly after with chicken wings, subs, and an array of fantastic side dishes and libations.

We drew in a large crowd (over 100 people), had fabulous musical entertainment, played a nautical themed bingo game (thank you Diane Lemieux), which added an additional element of fun while we socialized with one another. The weather and the company were perfect. The event was attended by a number of members from the public and brought the club several new members including some returning beloved members.

Please help me welcome those that joined us in the month of March:

 ·         Welcome back Dave and Leslie Corriher, of Little River, SC, owners of M/V River Mist

·         Matthew & Arien Kuhn, of Oriental, NC, owners of Alley Yukon, which they keep in Oriental.

·         Kent & Andi Pittman, of Raleigh, NC, owners of S/V At Last, which is kept at Sea Harbour Yacht Club in Oriental.

·         Stephen & Debbie Dawes, of Raleigh, NC, owners of S/V Genevieve, which they keep at Pecan Grove in Oriental.

·         Dave & Sarah Holt, of Oriental, NC, owners of S/V Carolina.

·         Jack Schewel & Liz Mccormack, of Lynchburg, VA, owners of S/V Lady J, which they keep at Sail Craft Marina in Oriental.

·         Pepi & Laurie Stahlmann, of Oriental, NC, owners of S/V Lapis Lazuli, which is kept at Sea Harbour Yacht Club in Oriental.

·         George & Lisa Tucker, of Oriental, NC.

·         Bruce & Susan VanMeter, of Oriental, NC, owners of S/V Rocket, which is kept in Oriental.

We look forward to the 2025 sailing season with all of you! We’ll see you on the water!

Cruising

The first Cruise of 2025 was a success.  High winds and a difficult forecast made for a smaller turnout but those who managed to get to Morehead City Yacht basin, we had a great time.

The social at the clubhouse was great fun and delicious food was appreciated.
Cara and Jason organized a fantastic start to the 2025 cruising season.

Our next cruise is the Late Spring Cruise.

May 3-4
It will be led by Mary and Matt Kemp
This will be a BYOB cruise to either South River or West Bay depending on the weather and wind direction. We will have a beach cookout and potluck.
For updates, join the 2025 Late Spring Cruise Forum.  Join us and fly your Burgee !

This year we are going to try communicating via WhatsApp on the cruises. It is easier to add and remove group members than regular texting. Please consider downloading WhatsApp if you don’t have it yet.

We hope you will join us for as many cruises as you can. And as always, we look forward to seeing you on the water.
