Dog Days Cruise
For our middle-of-the-season Dog Days Cruise we'll shake off the July heat with a run up the Bay River, into the Hobucken Cut (ICW), then across the Pamlico River and up the Pungo River to historic Belhaven. There is often good sailing even in summer in the Bay, Pamlico and Pungo rivers.
We will be docking at the restored River Forest Manor and Marina in Belhaven, which is just beyond the breakwater and a short walk to downtown. The 1899 River Forest Manor in its prime attracted celebrities, politicos and wealthy stakeholders including American actor and dancer James Cagney, cartoonist Robert Ripley, businessman Harvey Firestone and British model Twiggy, and gained the attention of national newspapers and magazines including National Geographic. The property fell into disrepair in 2011. It was then purchased by a group of Belhaven residents and local investors in October 2014. Since then the River Forest Manor & Marina has been transformed to meet the original owner's vision of a grand place to entertain the most lavish parties and events.
The Manor and Marina has has become a must-visit stop along the Intracostal Waterway and a meeting place for boaters from all over the East Coast.
