We're in the process of purchasing our first boat. She comes with an early 2000s Yanmar 3GM30F engine with about 3k hours. Do folks recommend a separate engine survey or just see how she does during the survey & sea trial, etc?

It will take some time for members to move to the new site and subscribe to forums. Thanks for trying.

I have a 3GM30 of about 2k Hours and it all depends on how well it was taken care of. A normal survey would listen for good compression and smoke to determine life. By 3k hours I would hope all hoses and lines have been replaced and if it still has compression you've got some time left. Take her out and throttle her up to make sure the prop pitch is well matched to the Yanmar.
