"NCO Social Distancing Regatta" - April 14, 2020

Dear NSA Members,

The Nautical Co-op of Oriental is proposing a fun but safe day on the water, dubbed the NCO Social Distancing Regatta, on Tuesday, April 14. The NCO leadership has run the idea by the town manager and received her blessing, with the caveat that everyone must obey the state and local rules concerning the Coronavirus, Covid-19. That means each boat crew should be from the same household, no socializing before, during or after the race, and out-of-town crews must bring all the provisions they need with them and quarantine themselves to their home or boat during their time in town, up to 14 days if they stay. That means not venturing away from home or boat at all.

The race format would be similar to the New Years Day "race", that is, no rules, no race marks or committee boat. Power boats are welcome. Participants would meet at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 14, in the vicinity of Oriental 1.  Coordination would be from s/v Island Girl on VHF 78 with a proposed course around either the Adams Creek or Garbacon Shoal marks depending on wind direction and then back to Oriental 1. The idea is to have fun, take photos of each other’s boats while not violating the rules about social distancing.

Please send copies of photos to Rock Rockwell at subrock71@gmail.com.

After the race, there will be a virtual awards meeting held via VHF. Boats should fly the yellow Q flag if they have one.

Please notify Rock Rockwell if you wish to participate. Include boat name, crew names, and any special needs via e-mail or phone (subrock71@gmail.com or 802-318-7493) by April 8. Thanks and see you on the water!
