NSA – TIME TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS!!

September has arrived and we have already experienced Tropical Storm Idalia which brought lots of rain and high water. We are watching closely the path of Hurricane Lee and hoping it will track northerly by the time you receive this Neuse Juice. Let’s hope this large storm stays well off our coast! The Labor Day Cruise was a great success with fun had by all who were able to get out to Cape Lookout! ( we didn’t make it ) Thanks to VC’s of Cruising Tracy and Robert and to Cruise Captains John, Cyndy, Wade and Amy for planning and organizing the event! I understand the "Nacho Averge Social/Nacho Bar" on the beach made for a memorable social! And thanks to all who attended! Remember that the Fall Cruise to Southwest Creek (South River) is the weekend of September 29th . This is a great anchorage with plenty of room and well protected! Cara, Jason, Marie and Buddy are the Cruise Captains so I’m certain it will be a fun weekend!

This year has moved by quickly but we still have several big events to round out the year! The 50th Anniversary celebration was this past weekend (I am written this before the event) and expect a large crowd! Thanks to Donna/Carl Crothers,

Pat Sordil/Jeff Kenyon, Ros/Howard Cheetham and the lovely and talented Sharon Stephenson for their help in planning and organizing this Celebration! October 13, 14 and 15 brings the Oriental Cup Regatta which I hope we have a good turnout from the NSA. It would be great to have a fleet of NSA boats to enter the Pursuit Race but if you can’t do that please attend Saturday nights Dinner/Social. This Regatta is very socially oriented. Also the NSA serves Bloody Marys and Mimosas at the Sunday morning awards presentation which the club has been doing for many years!!

And there is the Halloween Cruise to Beaufort being organized by Erik/Jean Hardtle & Rob/Sharon McDonald which is sure to be a fun time!

Also we will be posting updated information about the Commodore’s Ball on November 11th at Stanly Hall in New Bern!!

Thanks to all of you for your contributions, support and attendance to the Neuse Sailing Association! We have a marvelous club that has weathered the test of time and that is because of you and all the past members !!!

If you ever have any questions/concerns about NSA please contact me!

Cruising Update

Despite the tropical storm, we had a great turn out for the Cape Lookout Cruise!  Many thanks to Wade and Amy aboard Anticipation Too and Cyndy and John aboard Chardonnay for doing an excellent job as cruise captains.  A good time was had by all!  See their write up for more details.

Next up will be the Fall Cruise.  It is scheduled to be held at Southwest Creek but we've been talking to Jason/Cara, Buddy/Marie about potentially changing it to West Bay if the weather is good so keep a close eye on the forum for updates.  Either place will be a good time with that crew leading us up!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our cruises or to request a buddy boat.  We have cruisers of all experience levels in our club and there's always someone available to support where needed.

See you on the water!

Cruise: Labor Day Weekend  - Destination: Cape Lookout

Well, that was sure one for the books! The NSA Labor Day Cruise to “the Cape” was among the best for weather, temperature and calm winds that we can remember. The NSA had a rough time this year with weather and for a short time it appeared that Tropical Storm Idalia could derail another cruise. As it turned out she passed through, pulling out the heat and humidity, leaving behind a beautiful weekend.

The parade started early and several boats spent a night or two in Beaufort before heading out Saturday morning. Some sailed, some motored and some both as the majority of the fleet arrived by noon and began to prepare for what was a fabulous social on the beach. It was truly an NSA feast as the 45+ members shared great food, drinks and, of course, adventures in the sunny but cool breeze on shore. Many enjoyed the clear waters and others the shade provided by beach tents and Shibumis with a few basking in the sun. To see all the boats with NSA burgees flying plus the huge crowd on the beach is a testament to all the NSA has to offer. We had several first timers, many old timers and those in between as we partied together on the beach.

Without a doubt, the “Nacho Average Social” on Sunday was the highlight of the weekend. The brainchild of Amy Clifton and Cyndy Little was a BIG HIT! Through the forum, a list of necessary ingredients was posted and attendees volunteered to bring part of what was needed to put together one of the most complete Nacho Bars I've ever seen, all on the beach at Cape Lookout! As the different items arrived, Cyndy and Amy, with several helping, put out a spread that would be the envy of any restaurant. Based on the comments received we might have to do this again!

Your cruise captains, Amy, Wade, Cyndy and John would like to thank all attendees and their contributions in making the Labor Day Cruise a true memory maker. Be sure to check the NSA website and Facebook page for pictures and we'll see you on the water.
