This cruise had been scheduled for Sept. 22-24, but has been moved to Oct. 14-15 due to a conflict with Harborfest.
Just 20 nm from Oriental, West Bay is a large body of water on the west side of Cedar Island off Pamlico Sound. It is a favorite destination for the NSA, though in recent years the club has had to cancel the cruise due to weather and divert to a marina, such as River Dunes. We're going to give West Bay a go in 2017 for our Fall Cruise, but instead of gambling on ideal winds to allow us to anchor on the sound side off the beach, we're instead going to go inside the bay, anchor and raft our boats up.
Mid-October should offer cool evenings at anchor and hopefully fewer mosquitoes than in the hot summer months. We'll hold our social by moving between cockpits on our rafted up boats. A raft-up is a lot of fun! Tip: Don't forget to bring your fenders! After the social, boats can anchor inside or go outside and anchor in the sound to get closer to the beach, wind permitting.
